Welcome to AP/DE Biology 2024-2025! I am so excited to learn how to best serve you, and to enhance (ruin?) your current outlook on how living things in the world work! This summer, get outside as much as possible, and be sure to marvel in the beauty, connectivity and complexity of nature. After next year, you will surely never look at it the same way again!

Go on a hike or spend some time outside. Solo, with a pet, friends, or family. While outside, try to:
1. Listen for one sound you can identify.
2. Listen for one sound you can't identify.
3. Look for signs of what kinds of plants and animals use the biome. (Look up the word biome if you don't know it!)
4. Make a prediction about how the area might change if it were fenced, had a new road built through it, or had a new development nearby.
5. Think about one question you have for AP Environmental Science.

AP Human Geography Basic Background Knowledge List
Part of entering an AP class is an assumption of a certain level of background knowledge and skills. Please review and be prepared to take an assessment the first two weeks of school in the fall relating to this list. The assessment will be mastery based, which means you can take the assessment multiple times but must attain 80% or above to pass. The assessment will be primarily a matching identifying assessment – do not worry about spelling. Don’t stress out about this, but do some review and familiarize yourself with this information. The following is a general list of vocabulary terms grouped by theme that will help you succeed in AP World History. Please familiarize yourself with each term, as they will appear time and again throughout the course via conversation and assignments.

Part 2: HISTORY IN FILM
The following films depict relevant historical circumstances/situations. Most of these are available on-line or via various streaming platforms. Many may be available at the library. Please do not feel compelled to purchase or pay to view these films.
Europe
- All Quiet on the Western Front (R) This film is rated R due to its very realistic portrayal of WW1. There are scenes depicting death, suicide and violence typical in WW1, so please be sure to get your parents approval before watching this film, or-even better, invite them to watch it with you. If you or your parents feel that this film is not appropriate for you to watch, that is perfectly acceptable as well.
- Jojo Rabbit (PG-13) Set in WW2 Germany, this film is a satirical depiction of the Hitler Youth and the end of WW2.
India
- Gandhi (PG) This acclaimed biographical drama presents major events in the life of Mohandas Gandhi, the beloved Indian leader who stood against British rule over his country through the use of civil disobedience.
East Asia
- Memoirs of a Geisha (PG-13) Set in pre-WW2 Japan, this film depicts the traditional culture of Japan as it modernizes in the early 1900’s.
Africa
- Hotel Rwanda (PG-13) Set in the 1990’s in Africa, this film depicts conflicts and genocide that plagued much of Africa after decolonization.
