Got Junk?

A service bringing your old junk into a classroom!

Ms. Wilson would like old "K'nex" construction toys for Physics class.

Mr. Von Stralendorff would like back issues of National Geographic, preferably from the last two years.

A few teachers have requested old, print version encyclopedias, for their classrooms.

Hospitality Committee

The Hospitality Committee would like to thank:

the volunteers who helped with the reception to welcome our Veteran guests to our annual patriotic assembly

Heather at Starbucks of Edwards for the generous donation of coffee and supplies

the BMHS students who made them feel so honored and remembered!

Message from the Principal

The Thanksgiving Holiday has come and gone but I would like to take this opportunity to count the many blessings we can be thankful for here at Battle Mountain High.  I trust I'm speaking for the entire Battle Mountain community when I say I'm thankful for:

  • the youthful exuberance and love of learning displayed by our high school students.
  • the dedicated teachers and instructional aides who are committed to helping our kids grow in every way.
  • the parents and boosters who take the time to become involved in helping their own students and other students at BMHS.
  • the parent volunteers who provide support in areas that positively impact our educational services- clerical, facility improvement, governing, fundraising, hospitality, and supervising.
  • the coaches and sponsors who spend additional time working with students outside of the classroom.
  • the custodians, bus drivers, health aides, maintenance staff, and cafeteria workers who daily "set the stage" for a safe, healthy, productive learning environment.
  • the secretaries and administrative assistants who field all the phone calls and requests, sustaining a vital link with our families.
  • the Eagle County Schools Central Office staff who support our schools by providing equitable resources and necessary guidance.
  • the School Board members who care enough to represent the educational interests of our community while receiving little financial compensation.
  • the grandparents, siblings, other extended family members and spiritual leaders who encourage and guide our BMHS Huskies.
  • the students who give you a warm greeting or "high five."
  • yes, the administrators and School Resource Officers who help lead our schools.
  • the many local businesses who support our school with time and financial help.
  • the media (Vail Daily Staff) who really report our local school news in depth.
  • the time with family away from school.

Have a wonderful holiday season!

Drug Influence Recognition for Parents

  3. Hallucinogens (LSD, Mushrooms, Ecstasy)

  5. Narcotic Analgesics (Heroin, Oxy, Demerol)
  6. Inhalents (Whippets, Nitrous Oxide, Gas, Glue, Paint)

Meet the Teams & Coaches

The Super Boosters would like to thank all of the people involved in putting on the Winter Meet the Teams & Coaches event.  A huge thank you to all the parents who made sloppy joes and cookies and to all those who helped with everything from set-up to clean-up.  We had a great turn out and we believe everyone had a fun time.  Thank you to Brian Nolan and the Blue Moose restaurant for their donation of HUGE chocolate chip cookies; they were yummy! Thanks to the Vail Daily for the ads promoting the event and thanks to all the businesses that donated the "swag". We will enjoy handing out "terrible towels" and the "Refuse to Lose" t-shirts at our upcoming sporting events.  Please continue to support our hardworking student athletes. They continue to make us proud here in HUSKY NATION!!

Security Bulletin

During the Winter Break the entrance to BMHS will undergo a security overhaul.  Visitors will enter the first set of front doors and proceed to the right, where they will check-in at the attendance office, before entering the school through the main office door.  The second set of doors at the front entrance will remain locked from the outside during class time.

Modern school security standards dictate that a school entrance funnel all guests through the front office.  This ensures that administrators and office staff see and greet every visitor that enters the building.  Our new facility in Edwards was designed with this safety feature in mind.  After reviewing our current office geometry we realized the same function could be implemented now.

Our hope is to make BMHS a safe and secure learning environment without sacrificing a welcoming atmosphere for our guests.  Please bear with us as we implement this change.

"Understanding Creative Thinkers"

 January 10, 2008, 6:30-8:00pm

 Eagle County Health Services Building

(behind the Edwards Post Office)

Most students can't display their creativity through typical standardized testing.  How do we recognize creative potential and identify our "creative" gifted learners? How do we then nurture these creative students? Dr. John Kauffman will explain the eighteen different creative characteristics defined in the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking and their significance for the identification and teaching of creative students.  The TTCT Creative Constructs also enhance how we all can be more creative in our life style and approach to life's challenges.
