Academic Rigor

by Web Admin last modified May 16, 2006 09:21 AM

Academic rigor is the focus for Battle Mountain students, staff and administration. Students have the opportunity to enroll in Dual Enrollment (DE) courses or Advanced Placement (AP) courses and earn college credit at the same time they earn high school credit. Grades earned in these courses are weighted, so a “B” in an AP class is equivalent to an “A” on the student’s transcript. Last year Battle Mountain students earned nearly 1,500 college credits, saving their parents over $270,000 in college tuition. Courses include:

AP Computer Science  AP Calculus AB
AP World History  AP/DE US History
AP Biology  AP Studio Art
AP English Language  DE Shakespeare
AP English Literature  DE College Algebra
AP Spanish  DE College Trig
AP Environmental Science  DE Government
DE Psychology  DE English Comp

For those wanting an even further jump start, students don’t have to wait until junior or senior year to take advanced classes. Battle Mountain offers Honors English, accelerated math and computer placement, and compacted science courses, which combine 2 trimesters of content into one, for qualified students.
