Academic Rigor

by Brooke Skjonsby last modified February 07, 2007 05:07 PM

Academic rigor is the focus for Battle Mountain students, staff and administration. Students have the opportunity to enroll in Dual Enrollment (DE) courses and/or Advanced Placement (AP) courses and earn college credit through Colorado Mountain College at the same time they earn high school credit. Grades earned in these courses are weighted, so a “B” in an AP class is weighted as an “A.” Last year Battle Mountain students earned nearly 1,500 college credits, saving their parents over $270,000 in college tuition. Courses include:

  • AP Computer Science
  • AP Environmental Science
  • AP World History
  • AP/DE US History
  • AP Studio Art
  • AP/DE Biology
  • AP English Language
  • DE English Comp
  • AP English Literature
  • DE College Algebra
  • AP Spanish
  • DE College Trig
  • AP Calculus AB
  • DE Government
  • DE Psychology

For those wanting an even further jump start, students don’t have to wait until junior or senior year to take advanced classes. Battle Mountain offers Honors English, accelerated math and computer placement, and compacted science courses, which combine 2 trimesters of content into one, for qualified freshman and sophomore students.
